History
Three Rivers was founded in 1966 by a committed group of Business and Community members from various companies. These members came together to form the development group with the key goal of maintaining and promoting the economic development of the area, with primary emphasis on strengthening the residential economic base through the production of new and outstanding middle-income housing.
Three Rivers is recognized as that entity that took a leadership role in the recovery of Corning, NY from the devastation of the Flood of 1972. With the vision and leadership of the membership and staff, downtown Corning not only recovered but rose to a new level of beauty and vibrancy. Even today Market Street in downtown Corning is considered a model for the revitalization of an historic downtown.
Three Rivers has continued in that role for more than 50 years, always looking forward and being visionary while convening businesses and communities around important initiatives such as development of the I86 Innovation Corridor Plan and a regional workforce strategy, preparation of numerous housing demand analyses used by private developers to establish several hundred new market rate housing units, numerous community revitalization strategies, and formation of the Corning Housing Partnership to name only a few.
Today, Three Rivers leadership focuses on the 3-county region and includes intown/downtown projects, talent attraction and business development working in collaboration with community leaders and economic development partners in Chemung, Schuyler and Steuben Counties.
